I used to love playing with Play-Doh when I was younger and my sister did too. It's a great activity for all ages and the perfect indoor activity. My mom decided to make a recipe because she felt like it was more sustainable and not as dangerous if we accidentally ate it. She also said it was softer than the store bought kind and lasted longer. This recipe makes enough for 4-6 kids. Without further ado, here's her recipe!
Play dough ingredients:
2 cups all-purpose flour
3/4 cup salt
4 teaspoons cream of tartar
2 cups lukewarm water
2 Tablespoons of vegetable oil (coconut oil works too)
Food coloring, optional
Quart sized bags
Directions
1.Stir together the flour, salt and cream of tartar in a large pot.
2. Add the water and oil. If you’re only making one color, add in the color now as well. If you’re making more than one, wait until the end to mix the colors in.
3. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly. Continue stirring until the dough has thickened and begins to form into a ball.
4. Remove from heat and then place inside a gallon sized bag or onto wax paper. After it cools slightly and you should knead until smooth.
5. If you’re making more than one color, divide the dough into balls (for how many colors you want) and then add the dough into the quart sized bags.
6. Start with about 5 drops of color and add more to brighten it. Knead the dough, while inside the bag so it doesn’t stain your hands.
7. Once it’s all mixed together you’re ready to play!
